Aside Grammar, What Have You Done, Wike Challenges FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, questioning her impact on residents beyond making speeches.

Speaking on Thursday during the official flag-off of the construction of the Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III in Abuja, Wike urged residents not to vote for leaders who, according to him, have failed to deliver tangible results.

The former Rivers State governor accused Senator Kingibe of focusing more on rhetoric than on initiatives that directly benefit Abuja residents. “What happened? What grammar did you speak in the National Assembly? What impact? How are Abuja people benefitting from your lawmaking? It’s very important, but time will come,” he said.

Wike further told residents to look beyond gender or sentiment when voting, stressing that competence and accessibility should determine their choice of leaders. “Don’t vote for somebody because she is a woman, don’t vote for somebody because he’s a man.

Vote for somebody who will deliver. No amount of crying as a woman would solve the problem,” he said.

He added: “Choose somebody that is close to you, that when you call him in the night, he will answer. Don’t call those who are only interested in a bottle of drink.”

Wike also hinted that performance would soon become the major yardstick for political relevance in the FCT. “Of course, a time is coming when it will be an operation show your report card,” he said.

The remarks have sparked renewed attention on the ongoing political rivalry between Wike and Senator Kingibe, who has often criticised the minister’s handling of FCT affairs since assuming office.
