Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have eliminated 16 terrorists affiliated with ISWAP and Boko Haram during a night operation in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Nigerian Army announced the successful engagement via its official X handle on Friday, stating that the terrorists were detected around 1 a.m. and engaged with sustained indirect fire.

According to the statement, the insurgents launched an attack targeting a brigade formation, prompting the immediate deployment of air support to bolster the ground forces.

“The combined firepower from both ground and air forces overwhelmed the terrorists after nearly two hours of intense combat, forcing the remaining fighters to flee,” the Army disclosed.

The military confirmed that an ammunition storage site was struck during the confrontation but was swiftly secured, preventing further escalation.

A pursuit operation is currently underway to track down the fleeing terrorists, the Army added.

Reaffirming its stance, the Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to maintaining offensive operations in the North East to ensure peace and security across the region.
