The All Progressives Congress has said its new digital membership registration is gaining wide acceptance across the country, with millions of Nigerians reportedly signing up within a short period. Party leaders say the exercise is aimed at building a stronger structure ahead of future elections, especially the 2027 general polls.
According to the party, the online system allows members to be properly identified and monitored, making the process more open and efficient. APC officials claim that more than two million people have already completed the registration, even as several states are yet to fully begin. The party believes the figure could rise sharply as the exercise continues nationwide.
The APC leadership has directed state coordinators to ensure that all members are captured, warning that anyone who fails to deliver may be replaced. The party chairman stressed that political success depends largely on grassroots organisation and warned against blocking any member from registering. He also cautioned against exaggerating figures that may not reflect actual voter strength.
In some states, party leaders and governors have openly participated in the registration to encourage supporters. They have called for calm, transparency and proper coordination at ward and local government levels, insisting that the process must not be manipulated. Party groups in some states have also warned against imposing candidates, calling for fair internal contests.
However, opposition parties have expressed deep concern over the exercise, accusing the ruling party of using the registration drive as a tool to prepare for election manipulation. They questioned the high figures being announced and argued that such claims are meant to justify inflated results in future elections. The opposition insists that Nigerians should closely monitor the process to protect the integrity of the electoral system as political tension continues to rise ahead of 2027.
