The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied rumors suggesting that President Bola Tinubu is considering replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima before the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, APC’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East zone, dismissed the claims as unfounded and distracting, highlighting the strong working rapport between the President and his deputy.
“This is the first time I’m hearing such reports. President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima maintain a close and effective working relationship,” Arodiogbu said.
He emphasized that Shettima remains a key figure within the administration—capable, focused, and actively involved. According to him, these rumors are likely political distractions aimed at causing divisions.
Arodiogbu added that speculation of this kind often arises during election periods when political dynamics shift, but reassured that both leaders enjoy the party’s full trust and support.
Similarly, Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, stated he had no information about any plan to remove the Vice President.
“I have no knowledge of any such intention,” Bwala said.
The rumors surfaced following a major show of support for President Tinubu by senior APC members. At the party’s National Summit held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, 22 governors, legislative leaders, and top officials endorsed Tinubu as the sole APC presidential candidate for 2027.
The endorsement was moved by Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, and seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
Their motion received further backing from Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who pointed to the President’s performance as a reason to maintain continuity.
This outpouring of support has sparked talks about the possibility of replacing the Vice President to address regional balance or expand Tinubu’s appeal in the upcoming election.
