‘Any Woman Not in Her Husband’s House Isn’t a Queen’ — Portable Slams Iyabo Ojo

Controversial singer Portable has publicly criticised Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo over her recent comments praising single motherhood, sparking a fresh debate on family values and relationships on social media.

The backlash followed a viral video in which Iyabo Ojo dismissed the stigma traditionally associated with being a single mother, declaring that such narratives were outdated. The actress, who jokingly referred to herself as the “President General of the Single Mothers Association,” argued that single mothers are thriving and increasingly desired for marriage.

“Gone are the days when being a single mother was a stigma. Single mothers’ children are achieving greatness,” Ojo said in the video.
“Men now pursue and even beg single mothers to marry them. If one man rejects you, another will welcome you.”

Portable, reacting in a series of Instagram posts, strongly disagreed with the actress, insisting that marriage remains the ultimate marker of success for women. He accused Ojo of promoting what he described as a harmful narrative to younger women.

“Women who are married are the ones who are successful,” the singer said.
“You said single mothers are more successful — that’s a lie. What kind of advice do you want to give young women? That they should have children with different men?”
He further urged the actress to “set a better example,” describing single mothers as “heartbreakers” and warning against what he called the glamorisation of broken homes.

In another post, Portable criticised Ojo for referring to herself as a “queen mother,” arguing that such a title should only apply to married women.

“Any woman who is not in her husband’s house is not a queen,” he wrote.
“Moving from one man’s house to another is not good. Single motherhood should not be celebrated.”
