Anti-Tinubu Coalition Pushes for New Political Party, Targets 2027 Presidential Election

A coalition of political actors opposed to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has initiated plans to form a new political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The emerging platform, proposed to be named the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), is being spearheaded by the League of Northern Democrats (LND) in partnership with other opposition figures under the umbrella of the National Opposition Coalition Movement led by former Senate President David Mark.

According to Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the LND, the initiative gained traction following a series of consultations with key national figures including former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Defence Minister Gen. TY Danjuma (rtd). Ardo said these elder statesmen advised that the political movement should broaden its reach beyond the North to foster national inclusivity and unity.

“We are committed to building a political platform that will restore the hope Nigerians had in 2015, which has been eroded under the current APC administration,” Ardo said during a media briefing in Abuja.

He noted that a committee established by the coalition has concluded its work and recommended the name ADA for the proposed political party.

Ardo also responded to recent remarks by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who downplayed the relevance of the opposition movement. He described Wike’s comments as premature.

“Our message to the minister is simple: time will tell. Once the ADA is officially adopted and registered, it will mark the beginning of a new political era in Nigeria,” Ardo stated.

He expressed confidence that the proposed party would gain support across all regions of the country and emerge as a formidable force in the 2027 elections.

“We are determined to reshape the country’s political direction and ADA will be at the heart of that transformation,” he added.
