The Anambra State government has banned the wearing of political party uniforms during President Bola Tinubu’s visit today, Thursday, May 8, 2025. The ban affects members and supporters of various parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and other support groups.
This directive was issued by Alex Obiogbolu, the Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Political Matters, in a statement released this morning. The move aims to ensure the event remains neutral and focused on its purpose, without any political distractions.
President Tinubu is set to hold a town hall meeting with key figures at the newly renovated Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka. The government has made it clear that attendees must dress in plain clothes, as party attire will not be allowed at the venue. This measure was put in place to prevent any form of political display that might overshadow the event’s primary objective.
Although supporters of both APC and APGA had planned to attend the meeting in party uniforms to show their support, the state government intervened to prevent any partisan activities. Sources suggest the ban was agreed upon to ensure the event remains politically neutral, especially given the sensitive timing of the visit.
In addition to the town hall meeting, President Tinubu is expected to launch various significant projects, including the new state government house and the Solution Fun City, which are considered important accomplishments of the state government.
