Amotekun arrests suspected killer of APC Chieftain, 31 others in Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has apprehended 32 suspects across various parts of the state for alleged involvement in crimes ranging from kidnapping and robbery to rape and theft.

Among those arrested is a key suspect in the murder of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, a ward chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was kidnapped last month alongside two others near his farm located along the Ifon-Owo road in Ose Local Government Area.

Speaking to journalists in Akure, the state capital, on Monday, the Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the arrests were carried out in all 18 local government areas.

He explained that the suspect in Adepoyigi’s killing has confessed and led operatives to the forest where items stolen from the victims’ families were recovered.

“Today, we’re parading 32 suspects arrested for various offences. The man linked to the killing of the APC ward chairman in Ose has admitted to the crime. He took our operatives to the crime scene deep in the forest where some stolen belongings were found,” Adeleye said.

He added that, in the last two weeks, no incidents of ransom payment were recorded in any kidnapping case within the state, in line with the policy of the Ondo State Government.

Adeleye listed the nature of the offences and the number of suspects involved: 20 arrested for breaching public peace, 10 for kidnapping, two for armed robbery, one for rape, and one for violating the state’s anti-open grazing law. No arrests were made in connection with labour disputes, land matters, or human trafficking.

He also provided details about the kidnapping suspects, who range in age from 18 to 45, and were apprehended in locations such as Ute-Owo Forest, Jugbere, and Ipele.

Those accused of armed robbery were said to have operated along the Benin Expressway, while another suspect was arrested in Akure’s Powerline area for alleged forgery and aiding criminal activity.

The Amotekun boss reassured residents that security remains a top priority and that efforts are ongoing to sustain peace across troubled areas, particularly in Akure North, where a dedicated task force remains active.
