Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, has once again stated that he has no deep interest in acquiring wealth, despite his long-standing political career.
In an interview with Daily Sun, Amaechi revealed that his wife does not own a personal vehicle and currently uses one of his extra cars. He explained that their lifestyle is driven by choice, not a lack of resources.
“I’ve been involved in politics since I was 22. Now I’m 60—that’s nearly four decades. In all that time, have you ever heard of any corruption case against me?” he asked. “No allegations of stealing public funds. That’s something I’m proud of.”
He also pointed to the simplicity of his lifestyle as evidence. “Did you see luxury cars outside? My wife drives my backup car. Not because we can’t afford one, but because that’s just how we live,” he said.
Amaechi, who contested the 2023 APC presidential ticket and lost to Bola Tinubu, served under the Buhari administration for eight years and was instrumental in the APC’s victory over the PDP in the 2015 general election.
He maintained that throughout his time in public service—whether as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor, or Minister—he has remained committed to integrity and modesty.
