The President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has reportedly been hospitalised in a London clinic due to an undisclosed illness, as alleged by controversial blogger Kemi Olunloyo on her Facebook page on Sunday afternoon.
In her post, Starnews NG reports that Olunloyo urged Akpabio to “step down now to save his life,” expressing concerns about his health and the implications of his continued role in office.
She claimed to have received information from a Nigerian nurse who worked closely with Akpabio, which led her to break the news of his hospitalisation.
Olunloyo stated, “Godswill, please step down. Your health is in bad shape. Power is transient.” She further emphasised the importance of government officials disclosing their health status to the public, drawing comparisons to the transparency shown by international leaders regarding their health conditions.
She also recounted previous attempts by Akpabio’s associates to persuade her to retract her statements, alleging that they offered her financial compensation to alter her narrative. “You don’t bribe a journalist to tell the truth,” she asserted.
As the situation unfolds, Olunloyo’s call for Akpabio to resign has stirred discussions on Facebook among the public regarding the health and transparency of political leaders in Nigeria.
