In a major shakeup within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a prominent political figure and member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), Hon. Afolabi Akinsiku, has announced his resignation from both the party and its highest advisory body.
Hon. Akinsiku, popularly known as Sendme, tendered his resignation in a formal letter addressed to the PDP leadership, citing prolonged and unresolved internal crises at the local, state, and national levels of the party. He described the persistent disunity and lack of cohesion as the key reasons behind his decision to exit after decades of loyal service.
“It has been an honour to contribute to the growth of the PDP in Ondo State and beyond. However, I believe the time has come to take an integrity-driven decision,” Akinsiku stated in his resignation letter.
Akinsiku, who holds an illustrious political track record, represented Ondo West Constituency I for two consecutive terms in the Ondo State House of Assembly—serving in both the 6th and 7th Assemblies. This makes him the longest-serving lawmaker from the constituency since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
Beyond the legislature, he also served as a full-time board member of the Ondo State House of Assembly Service Commission, contributing significantly to legislative governance in the state.
In February 2024, the South-West PDP caucus nominated him to the BOT, recognizing his political experience, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the party’s ideals over the years.
Hon. Akinsiku expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership for the opportunity to serve, while also extending his best wishes to the party as it navigates its internal challenges. He expressed hope that the party would one day overcome its divisions through unity and genuine reconciliation.
On his future political direction, Akinsiku revealed that consultations are currently ongoing, and he will announce his next move at the appropriate time.
The resignation marks a significant loss for the PDP in Ondo State and the South-West, where Akinsiku has long been seen as a stabilizing force and a respected voice within the party’s ranks.
