Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has distanced himself from the petition leading to the scrutiny and possible prosecution of Barrister Wale Omolegbon over alleged cyberbullying.
Aiyedatiwa, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, maintained that he neither authorised nor influenced any move to petition the police against Omolegbon or any other critic of his administration.
“The Governor did not commission anyone to petition the police against any citizen for criticising him or his administration. He has always embraced the responsibility of leadership, including the pains that come with it,” the statement read.
The Governor noted that, in the past, he had been subjected to various criticisms but had never taken offence, insisting that he remains a democrat who values divergent opinions in a democratic setting.
Aiyedatiwa, therefore, directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to take over the case and work towards dropping the charges against Omolegbon.
