Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has responded sharply to a recent statement made by Otito Atikase, a representative of Ondo in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Atikase had publicly called for Aiyedatiwa to direct the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, to fall in line.
Although Atikase did not provide specifics for his statement, he mentioned his intention to protect the All Progressives Congress (APC) from any threat, saying he would not passively watch as anyone harmed the party or government.
In response, Aiyedatiwa criticized Atikase’s remarks, claiming they were inappropriate and overstepped boundaries.
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Strategic Communications, Allen Sowore, Aiyedatiwa made it clear that such actions were not acceptable.
He pointed out that an unelected NDDC board member issuing directives to an elected governor of the same state was not only out of line but also dangerously disrespectful to the chain of authority within governance.
Aiyedatiwa further stated that such public comments were a reckless and unacceptable form of insubordination.
He argued that public officials, especially those with no direct executive role in state governance, should not act in a way that undermines the office of the Governor or any other governmental authority.
In support of Aiyedatiwa, Kayode Ajulo also reacted, acknowledging Atikase’s public advice but reaffirming that the Governor, as the leader and chief executive of the state, was well within his rights to manage and hold his appointees accountable.
Ajulo stated that Aiyedatiwa had been diligently fulfilling his responsibilities to advance the progress of Ondo State.
