Air Peace has stopped all its flight services within Nigeria as a result of a nationwide strike by workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
The strike, which began on Wednesday, has made it impossible for the airline to access weather data needed for safe flying, especially information required for landing aircraft.
The airline explained that without the QNH report — a vital tool pilots rely on to measure air pressure for safe landings — continuing flight operations would be risky.
This has forced them to halt all scheduled flights until the strike is resolved.
The NiMet workers began their indefinite strike on Wednesday to push for better working conditions.
According to them, the agency has failed to address several concerns, such as agreed financial allowances, wage awards, and other outstanding entitlements going back as far as the 2019 minimum wage adjustment.
They also claimed that some staff have been left out of payments and essential training opportunities have been sidelined.
Before fully suspending operations, Air Peace had warned passengers that the strike could cause delays or cancellations.
The airline said it is keeping an eye on the situation and hopes for a quick resolution so that normal operations can resume.
It also assured passengers that their safety remains the most important concern.
