Former Ondo State Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Ajayi Alfred Agboola, has formally withdrawn his appeal before the Supreme Court challenging the outcome of the last governorship election in the state.
In a letter dated September 16 and addressed to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Agboola said the decision followed wide consultations with political stakeholders, his family, associates, and legal advisers.
“As the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, I have engaged in thoughtful discussions with my family, party members, associates, and legal advisors. After careful deliberation, we have reached a consensus that the appeal should be withdrawn, and I hereby do so,” he stated.
Agboola explained that the move was motivated by a commitment to peace, stability, and good governance, stressing that politics should never overshadow the collective interest of the people.
“Having served as the former Deputy Governor and as a representative of my constituents at the national level, my foremost commitment is to the principles of good governance and the promotion of peaceful coexistence in Ondo State and across Nigeria,” he added.
He also congratulated Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, pledging to support his administration’s vision for the state.
“In this spirit, I extend my heartfelt wishes to His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as he leads our state, and I remain dedicated to contributing positively to the State and National development,” Agboola said.
The former deputy governor further urged residents and political actors to prioritize peace and unity in the overall interest of Ondo State’s progress.
