The chairman of Fufore Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Shuaibu Babas, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, after dealing with a health condition that lasted for some time.
His death took place less than a year after he officially became the council chairman in July 2024.
Babas had been in public service for years before becoming the council boss.
He once represented Fufore/Gurin in the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
He also served as the sole administrator of the Malabu Development Area.
His years of service made him a familiar figure in the local political scene.
The exact illness that led to his death was not made public.
However, a family member close to him confirmed that he had been sick for a long time before he passed away.
His funeral took place in line with Islamic customs.
With Babas no longer in office, there is now a possibility that the local government area could have its first female chairperson in a long while.
The vice chairperson of Fufore, Peace Samson Audu, may step in as acting chairperson.
She is one of the 21 women who were inaugurated last year as vice chairpersons alongside 21 male chairmen across Adamawa State.
