Actress Bukky Raji Says Supporting Tinubu Was a Mistake

Nollywood actress Bukky Raji, also known as Aminatu Papapa, has spoken out about her regret for backing President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.

She explained that her support was based on false hopes and personal business expectations that were never met.

Raji, who made her statement during a recent YouTube interview, admitted that she was driven by the belief that Tinubu, coming from her region, would reopen the Southern borders which had been closed under the Buhari administration.

According to her, the closure affected her rice business, and she believed a change in leadership would bring relief to her trade.

She explained that her decision to campaign for Tinubu was not influenced by public pressure or social media criticism.

Instead, it came after deep personal reflection and the tough economic realities Nigerians now face.

She appealed to the public, especially those facing hardship, to forgive her for supporting the campaign.

The actress said she started her business with just a few bags of rice and grew it into a larger operation.

However, the border closure and current economic situation have made things harder for her and others.

She noted that everyone, including those who supported the campaign and those who didn’t, is now facing similar struggles.

Raji also spoke about the promises made by politicians during campaign meetings, saying she believed their words and acted in good faith.

She said her support was based on trust in their promises to improve the country.

While responding to questions about whether she received payment for campaigning, Raji stated that she got nothing.

She claimed there was disagreement among actors involved in the campaign about how funds should be shared, which led to disunity.

Despite being promised money, she said greed and lack of cooperation prevented proper distribution.

She recalled how her husband supported her when her business was struggling and made it clear that her recent comments were not for public sympathy but a personal decision to own up to her mistake.
