Actor Kanayo O. Kanayo Questions Catholic Church’s Use of Black Smoke to Symbolize Failed Papal Election

Renowned Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has raised concerns about the Catholic Church’s use of black smoke as a symbol for a failed papal election. In a video shared on his platform, Kanayo criticized the long-standing tradition, which ties the color black to failure.

He pointed out the global impact of associating black with failure, stating, “When they fail, it’s black smoke. When they succeed, it’s white smoke. This has become ingrained in the minds of the world that black represents failure.”

Referring to the ongoing conclave of cardinals, the actor noted that black smoke recently signified their inability to elect a new pope and suggested a change. “Let blue smoke indicate a failed election and let white smoke mean a pope has been elected. Let’s remove the black. It’s not good for us,” Kanayo proposed.
