Acting PDP Chairman Accuses Some Leaders of Escalating Party Crisis

By: Bayero Ade

The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Iliya Damagum, has blamed certain party leaders for exacerbating the ongoing crisis within the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to Politics Nigeria, during a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, January 29, Damagum expressed his dissatisfaction with some leaders who, he claimed, bypass his authority and directly communicate with NWC members, even when he is present. He emphasized that these leaders would not tolerate such actions if they were in his position.

While acknowledging the internal tensions, Damagum played down the severity of the situation, describing it as a common challenge in political parties, and assured that it would be resolved shortly.

He also urged party leaders with personal ambitions to act with restraint, warning that their behavior should not destabilize the PDP, which he described as their only effective political platform.

In response to concerns raised by BoT Chairman, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, Damagum assured the Board that preparations for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in February are proceeding smoothly.

It beats me hollow that the PDP which is the only viable opposition party is unstable, thereby giving room to one party state, which of course, may lead to party anarchy. Since there’s no opposition, high dictatorship and monarchical government will come in .
