The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has cautioned the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) against issuing directives that could destabilise the pharmaceutical sector.
This call was made by the National Chairman of ACPN, Pharm. Ambrose Ezeh, during the 44th Annual National Scientific Conference of the association held in Awka, Anambra State. He made his remarks in a statement released to Daily Post on Saturday.
Ezeh stressed the importance of upholding the National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDG) established in 2015, urging NAFDAC to refrain from unilateral decisions that could undermine the stability and growth of the pharmaceutical industry.
“There is a need for clear regulatory frameworks to avoid conflicts between NAFDAC and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN),” Ezeh noted. He added that such clarity is essential for fostering collaboration, maintaining regulatory harmony, and ensuring optimal service delivery in the health sector.
Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Technology Integration and Personalized Care: The Future of Community Pharmacy Practice,” Ezeh emphasized the role of innovation in transforming healthcare delivery and the need for cohesive policies that support progress rather than hinder it.
He reaffirmed ACPN’s readiness to partner with relevant government agencies to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide. “We are committed to working with the government to ensure the well-being of health consumers across Nigeria,” he said.
The event attracted key stakeholders in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, including the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo; the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. Tanko Ibrahim; Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed; and the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, who was represented by the agency’s Deputy Director in Anambra State, Pharm. Loui Madu.
Stakeholders at the event echoed the call for improved synergy among regulatory bodies and pledged to continue driving innovations that will shape the future of pharmacy practice in Nigeria.
