The Abuja Steel Company, an iron smelting firm situated along the Abuja–Kaduna Road, has been identified as one of the alleged recipients of stolen sewage manhole covers.
According to security agencies, ‘exhibits of interest’ recovered from the company are currently in police custody, as investigations continue into the firm’s involvement, along with others, in the removal, purchase, and melting of the stolen covers.
Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the FCT Minister, confirmed that arrests and recoveries related to the vandalisation were made by both the Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Those arrested are said to be providing security operatives with valuable information about the buyers of the vandalised infrastructure.
Meanwhile, as directed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the replacement of the vandalised manhole covers commenced yesterday.
