Dear President Bola Tinubu,
I would like to take this opportunity to express my admiration for Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. In a system where inefficiency has long been tolerated, decisive leadership truly stands out, and Nigeria’s Minister of Interior is exemplifying this quality remarkably.
A recent viral video depicted the Minister making an unannounced visit to an immigration office, where he discovered officers seated idly while a large crowd of Nigerians waited outside for passport processing. Rather than overlook the situation, he took immediate action, rebuking the officers and warning against a recurrence of such negligence. This moment resonated with many Nigerians, reflecting a quality that is all too rare: a leader who is present and takes action.
While I may not be your supporter, Your Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, or of the APC-led administration that dates back to late President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime, I must commend you for this appointment. Your choice of Bunmi Tunji-Ojo is one of the best things that has happened to Nigeria.
Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has emerged as arguably the most visibly effective minister in your administration, particularly through his proactive reforms in the immigration sector.
For years, obtaining a Nigerian passport was a formidable challenge, plagued by delays, extortion, and endless bureaucracy. Today, however, we can witness a noticeable shift. Through firm oversight, policy enforcement, and renewed accountability, the Nigerian passport is gradually regaining credibility and acceptance globally. These developments are not mere coincidences; they are the results of intentional and impactful leadership.
What truly distinguishes Minister Tunji-Ojo is not just his policy announcements, but his commitment to policy execution. His hands-on approach communicates a powerful message: public service is about responsibility, not mere comfort.
In a country yearning for functional institutions, such leadership deserves recognition. Performance should always take precedence over politics. Without exaggeration, Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has certainly earned my respect.
I want to conclude by saying that his sterling leadership performance is one of the reasons many Nigerians, especially those of us abroad who do not support the APC, are now being attracted to your administration.
I hope more opportunities will be afforded to leaders like Ojo before the expiration of your first term.
