group under the aegis of People United for Societal Harmony has condemned the planned protest by some persons masquerading as a human rights organisation in Delta.
The acting National President of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights, Kehinde Taiga, had issued a statement on Friday, drawing the attention of the police to a planned EndSARS protest over alleged extortion by police in the state.
Reacting to the statement, the People United for Societal Harmony distanced itself from the press statement.
The Secretary-General of the association, Austin Akaraiwe, in a statement on Monday, said the planned protest was capable of bringing back the ugly legacies of the #EndSARS protest
He said, “The intelligence report reaching us has it that the arrowhead of the self-acclaimed human rights group recruiting some unsuspecting persons in Asaba, Warri, Sapele and environs for the planned protest was an expelled member of human rights organisation in Nigeria,” part of the statement said.
Akariwe said that the People United for Societal Harmony was rising up against such planned protest, even as it called on residents to drop the idea and embrace peace.
Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bright Edafe, said the command would do everything possible to stop such protest if it was carried out
