72 Arrested Over Alleged Rape, Indecent Assault in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 72 suspects in connection with 44 cases of rape and indecent assault recorded in the state over the last five months.

Commissioner of Police, Sani Aliyu, disclosed this while briefing journalists, stressing that the arrests were part of intensified efforts to tackle sexual violence and protect women and children.

He noted that the Command’s adoption of intelligence-led policing has strengthened its ability to track and apprehend offenders.

“The fight against sexual and gender-based violence requires collaborative efforts from communities, religious leaders and civil society groups,” Aliyu said.

The CP revealed that the 44 sexual offence cases were among 394 incidents handled by the Command within the period, leading to the arrest of 748 suspects for crimes including armed robbery, culpable homicide, kidnapping, theft and fraud.

He urged residents to promptly report suspected cases of abuse, assuring that the police remain committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
