The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit on Wednesday carried out a coordinated operation in Victoria Island that led to the arrest of 49 people.
The agency targeted areas known for criminal activities and poor environmental practices, including Maroko Sandfill, Bonny Camp, and other nearby spots.
The raid began around 1:00 a.m. under the supervision of the unit’s chairman, Chief Superintendent of Police Adetayo Akerele.
Those arrested included 48 men and one woman, suspected of being involved in various crimes that had disrupted peace in the area.
The action followed several complaints from residents and reports that identified the locations as hideouts for street troublemakers and petty thieves.
The operation aimed to remove such elements and restore order in the community.
Authorities confirmed that all the suspects have been charged in court, in line with the state’s laws.
The agency also noted that it now runs regular enforcement exercises multiple times a week, focusing on places known for illegal settlement and crime.
The taskforce says it will continue working to ensure that Lagos remains a safe and clean place for everyone.
