25-year-old man to stay prison for stealing N1,000 food items

A magistrates’ court in Isabo, Abeokuta, sentenced 25-year-old Kazeem Salami to one year in prison on Friday for stealing food items worth N1,000.

Magistrate V.B. Williams ruled that the prosecution had presented a convincing case, leading to Salami’s conviction.

Salami, who initially pleaded not guilty during his arraignment, was found guilty.

Prosecutor Inspector Lawrence Olu-Balogun reported that the incident occurred on March 5 at 3:00 a.m. on Duroja Street in Ake village, near Laderin in Abeokuta.

Olu-Balogun stated that Salami’s suspicious behavior was observed by local residents, who alerted community security officers. Salami was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence in the area when questioned.

According to him, the convict could also not give an account of where he got the yam flour, palm oil and other food items in his possession, all worth N1,000.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 390 (9) of Ogun’s Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.

Even I don’t support stealing, but I think those he stole from, the vigilante and the judge are very wicked. This guy wouldn’t steal 1k
worth of foodstuffs if his not hungry and the economy is not favourable to the masses.
Can you imagine me in the market buying beans and a 70+ man work up to me saying I should give him 1cup to cook with the two 🌽 his holding.
Let our government do something to ease the people

This is madness ! The Proscutor and the Judge could not proscute or convicts those stealing our Billions of Dollars . For goodness sake the could have used his or discretions. The guy committed the offence because of hunger. !
