The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted 21 minors at the Geidam border post in Yobe State.
The children, aged between seven and 15, were found without travel documents and were allegedly being transported from Magama Local Government Area of Niger State to Niger Republic.
The NIS Yobe Comptroller, Mr. Sani Sule-Jega, confirmed the interception and noted that the minors’ lack of documentation raised suspicions.
The children were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.
The suspected trafficker, Abubakar Sadiq, claimed the minors were being taken to Niger for educational purposes, as their parents had asked him to find affordable schools in the country.
NAPTIP is continuing the investigation, with both the children and the driver now in their custody.
