Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared that he has not endorsed or promised any ticket to aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aiyedatiwa made this known while addressing leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, the state capital, on Sunday.
Although Ondo State will not hold a governorship election in 2027, political activities have intensified within the APC, with several members expressing interest in contesting for seats in the state and the National Assembly.
The governor, however, cautioned party members against spreading rumours and political falsehoods capable of causing division within the ruling party. He said it had become necessary to clarify his position following what he described as growing insinuations in the political space as preparations for party primaries gather momentum.
“Let me quickly correct this, because we know in the political climate there are many falsehoods, lies, insinuations, and assumptions that fly around and try to create cracks and divisions. I want to emphasise that I have not promised anyone a ticket.
“I have not promised anyone that I am giving you a ticket for the state assembly or national assembly election and I have not said I will deny anyone a return ticket,” he said.
The governor also spoke on the ongoing electronic registration exercise of the APC nationwide, describing it as critical to the future of the party. He said the meeting was convened ahead of the January 31 deadline to mobilise leaders across wards and local government areas to ensure the success of the exercise.
According to him, as of the day of the meeting, Ondo State had recorded 128,770 registered party members, placing it third in the South-West zone, though he noted that the figure could still improve.
In his remarks, the APC National Vice Chairman (South-West), Isaac Kekemeke, commended the level of urban development in Akure, describing the changes as visible and impressive. He also lauded Aiyedatiwa for his efforts in uniting various factions within the party.
“We are one state under the governorship of Aiyedatiwa,” Kekemeke said.
Earlier, the state chairman of the APC, Ade Adetimehin, described the party as the most dominant in the country, boasting that Ondo State paraded some of the most influential political figures within the APC. He said, “Our symbol is blue. The more united we are, the stronger we become. We must tolerate one another to get to where we are going.”
