Christian Eriksen: Denmark midfielder agrees in principle to join Manchester United

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen has agreed in principle to sign for Manchester United on a free transfer. The 30-year-old's short-term contract at Brentford ended last month. It is believed Eriksen could also have returned to Thomas Frank's side, but the lure of playing for United proved too much.   A three-year contract is being prepared for Eriksen, who is still to have his medical at Old Trafford.   Eriksen could be United and new manager Erik ten Hag's second signing of the summer transfer window, with Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia undergoing a medical at Carrington ahead of his move.

Lagos govt shuts school over pupil’s death

The Lagos State Ministry of Education has shut the Redeemers Nursery and Primary School, Ogba, following the death of a five-year-old pupil who reportedly drowned during a swimming lesson. The state Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, announced this in a statement on Monday, adding that the school will remain closed pending an investigation of its operations and procedures. Osun gov candidates sign peace accord next week

El-Rufai best choice as Tinubu’s running mate – Group

A group, Tinubu Support Organisation, has endorsed the Kaduna State Governor, Malma Nasir El-Rufai, as the best choice of running mate for the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.   The TSO said it arrived at the decision after its consultative meeting with critical stakeholders of the APC in the North-West geopolitical zone of the country.   The group noted that the APC had many outstanding individuals among its leaders that could serve as Tinubu’s running mate but the North-West, as the single largest voting bloc in Nigeria, should be allowed to produce the next Vice President.

Owo massacre: Akeredolu backs Matawalle on self-defence

Lagos court remands woman for brutalising 11-year-old over N1,000

A guardian, Eunice Agboye, has been arraigned before Magistrate O.A. Daodu of the Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly inflicting multiple injuries on her 11-year-old ward with a wire.   PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim was beaten by Agboye for misplacing N1,000.   The police arraigned Agboye on Monday on one count of assault.   The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.   The police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that Agboye committed the offence on June 24, on Oshinteye Street, Ketu, Lagos.
