2022 AWCON:Banyana Bayana Stun Super Falcons

 

Banyana Banyana of South Africa defeated Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the opening group C of the 2022 African Women Cup of Nations in Morocco , Starnews report

 

The game which was played at the Hassan Moulay stadium in Rabat started with both teams trying to unsettle one another and ended 0-0 in the first half.

 

The South African side dominated the first stanza of the game and was able to peg back Nigeria’s attack led by FC Barcelona Feminino forward, Asisat Oshoala.

 

The first half ended in a goalless but Banyana Banyana came out stronger in the second half and dominated possession.

 

Their efforts paid off in the 60th minute as Jermaine Senoposenwe gave them a well deserved lead.

 

Two minutes later Hildah Maigia doubled their lead after Super Falcon’s backline failed to clear its lines.

 

Nigeria’s coach Randy Waldrum made a change late in the game before Rasheedat Ajibade reduced the deficit for the champions

 

Super Falcons will have the opportunity to redeem their battered image when they face debutant Burundi in their second match.
