A former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, and a former Director with Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Prof. Robert Rotberg, have said it is time for the US to acknowledge that Nigeria is a failed state in the light of the many challenges plaguing the country. Campbell and Rotberg said this in an article titled, ‘The Giant of Africa is Failing’ which was published in the May/June edition of ‘Foreign Affairs’ magazine. Naira slides to N500 /$ at parallel market
Lagos – The Naira on Friday depreciated further to N500 to a dollar at the parallel market after it had remained stable for nearly three weeks,. The Pound Sterling and the Euro traded at N616 and N530 respectively at the open market. The Nigerian currency, however, remained stable at the Bureau De Change (BDC) segment of the market exchanging at N399 to a dollar, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N617 and N527, respectively. Senate Passes Law Prohibiting Discrimination Against HND Holders

JUST IN: Senate receives Bill to extend teachers’ retirement age by five years
The Senate, on Wednesday, received President Muhammadu Buhari’s executive Bill which seeks to increase the retirement age for teachers in the country from 60 to 65 years. The Bill also proposes increase in the years of service for teachers from 35 to 40 years. Buhari, in a letter read on the floor by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, noted that the Bill provides for harmonised retirement age for teachers in the country.
