14yr-old mechanic jailed over burglary, theft

A Jos Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 14-year-old mechanic to two years in prison for breaking into a home and stealing valuables.

Presiding over the case on Tuesday, Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos ruled that the convict, who had pleaded guilty, could avoid imprisonment by paying a fine of N100,000.

Additionally, he was directed to compensate the victim with N300,000.

According to Prosecutor Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, the incident was reported on February 18 at the Nasarawa-Gwom Police Station by the complainant, Nasiru Abdullahi.

Gokwat explained that the convict, alongside two accomplices who are still at large, broke into the complainant’s house through a window and stole a flat-screen television, a room heater, and 30kg of iron rods. They also took N147,000 in cash.

The suspect was later caught with the iron rods and heater, but his accomplices fled with the television.
