The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has shut down 13 companies in the state capital for failing to pay over N1.5 billion in land use charges.
The affected businesses include five banks, a hotel, several filling stations, and a restaurant.
According to KADIRS, the action followed legal approval and was conducted under the authority of tax laws in the state.
The properties will remain closed until the outstanding debts are cleared.
Among the defaulters, Hamdala Hotel owes over N113 million, while Unity Bank and Zenith Bank have liabilities exceeding N3 million and N5 million, respectively. Other prominent businesses, including Chicken Republic and Forte Oil, also face closure for unpaid charges ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of naira.
KADIRS emphasized that the enforcement drive aims to recover public revenue critical to funding state projects.
This action serves as a stern warning to other businesses in the state to meet their tax obligations promptly.
