Police in Kaduna have arrested 13 suspects following the killing of a naval officer, Lt. Commodore M. Buba, in the Kawo area of the state.
The officer was attacked around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday near the Kawo flyover while trying to fix a flat tyre on his way from Jaji.
He was said to have stepped out of his car to change the tyre when a man approached and asked for his phone.
When the officer refused to hand it over, the man stabbed him in the chest with a knife.
The attacker tried to flee but was caught by nearby residents and was also killed during the struggle.
After the incident, police operatives moved into the Kawo area and carried out a raid.
Thirteen suspects were taken into custody, and the police said dangerous weapons were found with them.
The wounded officer was rushed to Manaal Hospital, but he was already dead when they arrived.
His remains were later taken to the 44 Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
The slain officer was a senior course student at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji.
The police have promised to continue investigations and keep the area under close watch to prevent further violence.
