101KM Roads: Clear Communication Essential to Avoid Confusion, Starnews Publisher To Ondo CPS

The Publisher of Starnews NG, Pastor Olumide Akinrinlola, has raised concerns regarding what he perceives as inconsistent communication from the Ondo State Government concerning recently announced approvals for road construction and rehabilitation projects across the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and directed to Mr. Adeniyan Ebenezer, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Social Media, Akinrinlola addressed the official announcement regarding the approval for the construction and rehabilitation of key road networks, totalling 101km across the state. This includes the Omotosho–Igbotako–Iju-Odo Road in Okitipupa Local Government Area and the dualisation of College Road in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government, among others.

Known for his objective criticism, Pastor Akinrinlola commended the government’s efforts to inform the public but critiqued the communication approach, emphasising that the clarification regarding the phased nature of the road projects should have been disseminated through official channels rather than social media.

He noted that the omission of such crucial details in the initial announcement may have led to “misunderstandings and heightened expectations among the citizens,” pointing out that a follow-up clarification on Facebook could not reach the same audience as the original press release.

“It would have been more effective to communicate this clarification through another official statement, rather than a Facebook post, which may not reach as wide an audience as the initial press release,” he stated.

He cautioned that a lack of consistent updates through official means could create the impression that the government was “playing politics with the sentiments of the good people of Ondo State.”

“As a dedicated member of our community, I value transparency and clear communication from our leaders. Many who read the initial news may not be aware of the subsequent clarification, which risks creating confusion and mistrust,” he added.

Nevertheless, Akinrinlola reaffirmed his confidence in Mr. Adeniyan’s integrity and urged the information team to ensure that all future government communications include comprehensive details to foster a more informed and engaged public.
