Why I’ll Run For Political Office Again – Funke Akindele

Funke Akindele, a well-known Nollywood actress and filmmaker, has expressed her desire to reenter politics after her initial attempt in the 2023 Lagos State governorship election ended in defeat.

Akindele had run as the deputy to Abdulazeez Adediran (Jandor), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, but lost to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

After the election, Akindele took a break from political activities and removed campaign-related posts from her social media, leading to speculation about her future in politics.

However, in a recent appearance on the live edition of the WithChude podcast, Akindele confirmed that her political journey is far from over, and she intends to run again in the future.

She explained that her decision to enter politics was driven by a desire to give back to society.

Akindele mentioned that witnessing the struggles and challenges in politics, including witnessing violence and the challenges faced by women in the field, made her more determined to keep going.

She cited female politicians like Mummy Abike Dabiri as role models for how to speak with authority and respect.

Reflecting on her time in politics, Akindele shared that it has helped her build courage and gain a deeper understanding of governance.

She also emphasized how the experience taught her the importance of knowledge, and she now feels more confident speaking with data and statistics.

Despite the challenges, Akindele is proud of her political involvement and remains committed to continuing her efforts.

She assured that, if given the opportunity, she would not hesitate to run again.
