Why I Invested In Breweries When I Was Governor – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has defended the brewery project his administration started in the state.

He explained that the brewery remains an important part of Anambra’s economy, despite some criticisms about its value and impact.

Obi spoke on Monday during an interview, where he shared the difficulties he encountered while trying to bring investors to Anambra, especially for the brewery.

He said the brewery now brings in the most revenue for the state.

The former governor pointed out that many people depend on the brewery for work, including 500 workers directly employed and more than 5,000 others involved in delivery and distribution.

Some critics have said the government’s share in the brewery has lost value, but Obi rejected this idea.

He compared the brewery in Anambra to others in Nigeria, noting that similar businesses in other states do not face the same criticism.

Obi also addressed claims that his leadership caused more poverty in Anambra.

He disagreed and asked critics to look at official reports that show progress during his time as governor from 2006 to 2014.

He mentioned that international groups recognized Anambra as a leading state in development while he was in office.

He said that education and health improved under his watch and encouraged people to ask experts and organizations who worked on poverty reduction in the state at that time.

Obi admitted that he did not seek media attention for his work but focused on serving the people.

He concluded by saying he still lives in Anambra and is well-known among the people there. He invited anyone to visit and see for themselves how the community views him.
