UNILAG Clears Air on Student Loan Refunds

The University of Lagos has addressed claims that students who paid their fees upfront before receiving the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) have not been reimbursed. The school made it clear on Thursday that there is no delay in the refund process.

The university’s communication unit explained that the refund process only begins after the institution and NELFUND have confirmed and matched students’ payment records. According to the update, the school has so far received three batches of loan disbursements from NELFUND. Students from the first two groups have already received their reimbursements.

For the third group, whose funds came in late April, the university is currently checking payment details to ensure everything is accurate before proceeding with refunds.

The management restated its commitment to proper service delivery and said it will handle all refund cases in line with laid down rules. Students were also encouraged to continue using the loan platform and reach out to the student affairs division if they have complaints or need help.
