The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has responded to claims that President Bola Tinubu is being controlled by a powerful inner group.
He made this statement on Thursday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) national summit held in Abuja.
Idris explained that while many people share their views with the president, Tinubu listens but makes his decisions on his own.
According to him, Tinubu’s choices are shaped by what he believes is best for the country, not by pressure from behind the scenes.
The summit, themed “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far,” focused on the government’s actions under Tinubu’s leadership.
Idris described the Renewed Hope Agenda as a plan that puts Nigerians first, aiming to turn national problems into chances for growth.
He pointed to key steps the president took early in his administration, such as removing petrol and foreign exchange subsidies.
These actions, he said, helped free up resources and reduce waste, even though they came with tough challenges.
Idris noted that Tinubu took over at a tough time, but acted boldly to fix deep-rooted issues.
Idris also said that the changes made by the Tinubu-led government are starting to bring results.
He mentioned progress in different areas, including roads, social support programmes, mining, and energy.
He said the Renewed Hope Agenda is not just about plans on paper but about real changes that affect the daily lives of Nigerians.
As part of the government’s efforts to push the country forward, Idris revealed that 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable are being laid across Nigeria to boost broadband access.
He said this move will help connect more Nigerians to the digital world and create more opportunities.
The minister also spoke about a policy called Nigeria First, which directs government offices to use locally made goods and services.
This, he said, is meant to grow local industries, reduce dependence on imports, and protect the economy from shocks happening around the world.
Overall, Idris maintained that Tinubu is firmly in charge of his administration and is focused on making decisions that push the country in a better direction.
