President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has added two newly purchased Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fleet.
The event took place at the Presidential Air Fleet Apron in Abuja as part of activities marking the 61st anniversary of the Air Force.
The President was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the induction ceremony.
The occasion served as a way to show the government’s support for the Air Force and its continued efforts in improving the country’s security.
President Tinubu acknowledged the Air Force’s role in peacekeeping missions across Africa, including operations in The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Mali.
He described these efforts as part of the reason the Air Force is admired both at home and abroad.
The new helicopters are part of a broader plan to upgrade the military’s equipment.
Alongside them, other aircraft like the Diamond-62 surveillance plane, T-129 ATAK helicopters, and the King Air 360i have also been added recently.
These additions aim to boost the Air Force’s capacity to handle its operations more effectively and ensure its personnel have the tools they need.
President Tinubu restated that improving security is a key focus for his government.
He said the armed forces must stay committed to protecting Nigeria from all threats.
According to him, development and peace cannot happen where insecurity exists.
He promised that his administration would continue to provide the resources needed to help the military carry out its duties and protect the country.
