Terror swept through the Koro–Egbe corridor on Tuesday morning as terrorists ambushed traders travelling between Kwara and Kogi States, leaving several persons feared kidnapped.
The attack occurred along the Koro–Egbe route, a busy link between Koro in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State and Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The traders were reportedly on their usual weekly journey to the popular Ebu Market Day when the assailants struck.
Eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that the gunmen intercepted multiple vehicles, forcing travellers into the bush at gunpoint. The exact number of abducted persons remains unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The latest assault has heightened anxiety across Kwara–Kogi border communities, where residents say the route has become increasingly unsafe due to repeated attacks despite earlier warnings to security agencies.
This incident comes just days after terrorists launched another brazen attack on the Oshokoshoko–Obajana highway in Kogi State, a corridor that has emerged as one of the region’s most dangerous travel routes.
A viral video obtained by SaharaReporters showed dozens of stranded commuters on the Oshokoshoko–Obajana axis, their vehicles lined up in long queues as they awaited rescue amid reports of gunfire exchanges between security forces and gunmen.
A distressed traveller who filmed the scene narrated the ordeal, pleading for urgent intervention.
“Everybody, see what is happening here. This is Oshoko Shoko in Kogi State between Kabba and Obajana. We have been here for more than three hours,” he said in the video.
“Kidnappers are taking over the road. Soldiers and these bandits are staging fire presently. Everywhere is stuck. Please, Nigeria, come and save us.”
Residents and road users have repeatedly demanded tougher action from security agencies to restore safety along major highways connecting Kwara and Kogi States.
Security forces have yet to issue an official statement regarding Tuesday’s ambush.
