Tenant Allegedly Stabs Landlord to Death Over ₦1,500 Electricity Bill in Delta

A landlord, Mr. Lucky Obaze, has been allegedly stabbed to death by his tenant following a dispute over a ₦1,500 electricity bill in Boji-Boji Owa, headquarters of Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The tragic incident was confirmed on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, who disclosed that two suspects are currently at large in connection with the killing.

According to police sources, the dispute began when the landlord reportedly approached the tenant—who lives in a one-room apartment in the compound with his brother—to demand payment for the electricity bill.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that a heated argument ensued between the two parties before the landlord returned to his upstairs apartment to rest.

However, the situation allegedly escalated later when the tenant returned, armed with a knife, and stabbed the landlord during a renewed confrontation. Mr. Obaze was said to have died from the injuries sustained in the attack.

While confirming the incident, the police spokesperson declined to provide further details, stating that investigations were ongoing and efforts were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The killing has sparked outrage among residents of the community, once again drawing attention to the rising incidents of violent disputes linked to minor financial disagreements.
