Lecturers, doctors and other categories of civil servants under the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure, Consolidated Medical Salary Scale, popularly known as CONMESS, CONHESS, CONTISS salary scales, will benefit from an undisclosed percentage of pay rise, Nigeria’s Minister of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Chris Ngige, disclosed on Monday. Speaking during the commemoration of the 2023 International Workers’ Day celebration at the Eagle Square, Abuja, Ngige noted that the workers will also be paid arrears of the increase from January 2023. Nigerians to pay 5% tax on telephone call, text msgs, data, says FG
The Federal Government has disclosed that telecommunications subscribers would pay five per cent tax on calls, SMS and data services. Meanwhile, stakeholders in the industry have expressed dissatisfaction over government’s resolve to implement five per cent excise duty on all telecommunications services in Nigeria. Speaking in Abuja yesterday at the Stakeholders Consultative Forum on Implementation of Excise Duty, the Executive Secretary, Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Ajibola Olude, said taking cognizance of the hardship in Nigeria at a time like this, the government should rescind its decision to implement the five per cent excise duty on telecommunications operators.
$300m transferred to poor Nigerians in four years, says FG
The Federal Government has disbursed about $300m to the poor and vulnerable in its National Social Register through N5,000 cash transfers in four years. This was disclosed by the National Coordinator, National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office, Mr Apera Iorwa, in an exclusive interview with Sunday Punch. The agency, which is under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, coordinates the National Social Safety Net Programme. “For the cash transfer of N5,000 per month, the Federal Government, over the four-year period, has been able to disburse $300m,” he said.
