Katsina, despite being Buhari’s home state, bandits recruit youths with N5,000 – Gov Masari raises alarm

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, has lamented that bandits have infiltrated communities in the state, recruiting young men with as low as N5,000 along with drugs and other intoxicants. Masari added that the Nigerian Police Force does not have adequate number of personnel to effectively police the state with a population of about eight million people. Bandits attack Katsina community, loot houses, rustle animals

Bandits, on Friday night, struck again at Danbirgima in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, stealing residents’ money and rustling an unspecified number of animals in the process. No death was reported during the two-hour attack on the community. Residents said the bandits stormed the town around 9:45 p.m. and carried out their activities for the next two hours. It was learnt that during the operation, many residents especially men escaped to nearby villages and Kankara, headquarters of the LG. Masari Approves Death Penalty For Cattle Rustling, Kidnapping In Katsina

Governor Aminu Masari has signed into law mandatory death sentence for anyone convicted of cattle rustling or kidnapping in Katsina State.  Similarly, the offence of rape carries the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment in addition to a fine and compensation to victim. Theses decrees come on the heels of recent attacks in the state, the latest being the attack on three communities in Dan Musa, Faskari and Batsari local government areas leading to the death of 26 people.
