Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has accused Senator Ned Nwoko and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of conspiring to unjustly imprison Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West — the brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sowore described Nwoko as a “so-called criminal billionaire” who allegedly used his political influence and connections with the Nigeria Police Force to have Sammy West detained at the Keffi Correctional Centre.
Sowore claimed that the act was politically and personally motivated, linking it to the ongoing marital crisis between Nwoko and his wife, Regina Daniels.
“I have again been informed that the so-called criminal billionaire and APC Senator, Prince Ned Nwoko, has used his influence, working hand-in-glove with the illegal Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to have a young man unjustly imprisoned at the notorious Keffi prison,” Sowore stated.
He further described the development as “another episode of tyranny” and condemned what he termed “an unholy alliance of impunity” between Senator Nwoko, some police officers, and pliant magistrates.
Sowore called for the immediate release of Sammy West and the withdrawal of all alleged “bogus charges” against him, urging the Nigeria Police Force to “end the brigandage and lawlessness being perpetrated under political influence.”
As of press time, neither Senator Nwoko nor the Nigeria Police Force has issued an official response to the allegation.
