Soludo pledges to tackle flooding in Anambra community

By Charles Maduka

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has promised to address the flooding challenges affecting Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area. The governor made the pledge during his visit to the flooded parts of the community, where he was received by traditional ruler, Igwe Alex Onyido, and other community leaders.

Soludo attributed the recurring flooding to poor drainage construction and the negligence of past administrations. He said the state government would take immediate steps to fix the problem through a collaborative approach involving both government and residents.

The governor revealed that about eight kilometres of drainage would be constructed to permanently resolve the flooding, noting that a contractor had earlier done a substandard job. He commended the people of Ogidi for introducing catchment pits in their homes to help control erosion.

During the visit, the community presented Soludo with a fifty million naira cheque in support of his re-election campaign. The governor also announced plans to build a new public school in Ogidi before the end of next month to provide free education for children in the area.

Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling erosion, improving infrastructure, and empowering the poor. He urged residents to work together with the government to build a safer and more prosperous Anambra State.
