* Commends Senate, NDDC, for recommencement of work

* Appreciates Contractor for speed of work

Nicholas Tofowomo, the Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District at the red chamber of the National Assembly said on Saturday that electricity would be restored to the good people of Ondo South before the Easter celebration next year.

Senator Tofowomo gave this assurance when he visited the site of the ongoing installation of the transmission substation at Ode-Erinje road in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State that would supply electricity to Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Okitipupa, Irele and Odigbo LGAs.

Starnews Nigeria reports that the Senate had on September 22, 2021, lamented the 14-year blackout in the Ondo South Senatorial District and asked the Niger Delta Development Commission to complete the power project meant to provide electricity to the areas following a motion by Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, the representative of the area in the red chamber.

As the NDDC’s returned the contractors to the site in obedience to the Senate’s directive following the long term abandonment of the project, Senator Tofowomo visited the transmission substation and assured his constituents of electricity restoration before Easter Celebration after an on the spot assessment tour to ascertain the level of work done and the ongoing work at the station.

Tofowomo, while commending the Senate for a timely intervention, also thanked the NDDC for the recommencement of work, and appealed to them not to leave any stone unturned till the job is 100% completed.

The Ondo South Senator urged the residents of the Southern district to endure till Easter with a promise that the 14 years darkness will become a thing of the past.

“In the year 2019, before my inauguration, I visited the Omotosho power plant as a Senator-elect to meet with the management of the power plant on how to put an end to the blackout in my district. In 2020, I met with the management of BEDC twice and we discussed how to tackle the power outage in many communities and the issuance of prepaid meters to areas partially reconnected to the national grid.”

“The BEDC told me then that the 30mva transformer in Ondo Transmission Station supplying power to Ondo South was no longer sustainable. Since that time, I promised to follow up with the timely completion of the Erinje Transmission substation as the lasting solution to reconnect all the communities in my district.”

“Hence I raised the alarm at the floor of the Senate a few weeks ago to urge the NDDC to complete the power project meant to provide electricity to the five LGAs. Today, I am here to see things for myself as the contractors are back to work again. I am very satisfied with the level of work achieved by the contractor so far. I sincerely thank him for a good job”.

“Let me use this opportunity to commend the Senate for a timely intervention, and I also thank the NDDC for the recommencement of work. With this assessment, and with the speed of work here, I am very optimistic that electricity would be restored to the good people of Ondo South before the Easter celebration next year.”

“I urge my people to endure till Easter. This will soon become history. And I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the NDDC again not to leave any stone unturned till the job is 100% completed,” Senator Tofowomo said.
