Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Federal Capital Territory has shown her support for a youth activist calling for changes to Nigeria’s electoral laws. The call for reform came on Friday when Peter Akah, also known as Randy Peter on social media, visited the National Assembly in Abuja to submit a request for an amendment to the Electoral Act.
The visit sparked reactions online as Akah urged Senator Kingibe to help push the demand through the Senate. The Senator responded on Saturday, expressing her support for young Nigerians pushing for a fair and transparent electoral system.
Kingibe said she is ready to support efforts that would improve the electoral process and ensure the voices of citizens are heard. She noted that Akah’s actions show the strength and determination of Nigerian youths who want real change in the way elections are handled.
She added that reforms are necessary to meet the expectations of the public and improve how democracy works in the country. Kingibe also acknowledged the effort Akah made by travelling to the Senate to submit the letter and said it shows strong civic responsibility.
The Senator said she would continue to work with young people and others who believe in democracy and are calling for a better electoral system.
