Russia Strikes UN Aid Convoy in Ukraine

By: Sunday Ameh

Russian forces have attacked a United Nations aid convoy in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials. The strike, involving drones and artillery, reportedly took place near the frontline town of Bilozerka.

Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the regional military administration, stated that the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) convoy consisted of four vehicles, with one vehicle destroyed by fire and another heavily damaged. He said the attack was a deliberate targeting of humanitarian vehicles.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiga, condemned the incident, describing it as “another brutal violation of international law” and evidence of Russia’s disregard for civilian lives and global norms.

Photos released by Ukrainian officials showed a World Food Programme truck engulfed in flames. The UN and Moscow have not yet issued official statements regarding the strike.

Ukrainian authorities and aid organizations have repeatedly accused Russia of bombarding humanitarian facilities since the start of the nearly four-year invasion.
