Police Open Applications for Recruitment of 50,000 Constables

The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force have commenced the recruitment of 50,000 police constables, following approval from President Bola Tinubu. This initiative is part of the President’s strategy to enhance community policing, improve security, and bolster the manpower of the police.

On November 26, 2025, President Tinubu declared a nationwide security emergency and directed the police and armed forces to recruit additional personnel to address the rising insecurity across the country. He also recently mandated that all police officers attached to VIPs and politicians be withdrawn, asserting that a greater number of officials on the ground would enhance the security of Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, announced that the recruitment portal will open from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026, for eligible Nigerians.

According to the PSC, candidates applying for the General Duty position must possess GCE O’Level, SSCE/NECO, or equivalent results with at least five credits, including English and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings. Applicants for the Specialist cadre must have a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, along with three years of experience and relevant trade test certificates.

Kalu emphasized that all applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth. Candidates for General Duty should be between 18 and 25 years old, while Specialist applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old. Male candidates must have a minimum height of 1.67m, while female candidates must be at least 1.64m tall.

All applications must be submitted online through the recruitment portal. The statement further noted, “Application is FREE as there will be NO PAYMENT required at any stage of the process, and applicants are warned to be wary of fraudsters.”

The Commission indicated that detailed guidelines and requirements will be available on the portal once activated on December 15, as well as on the official websites and social media pages of the PSC and NPF. The PSC urged all qualified Nigerians to seize this opportunity, stating that the recruitment drive is a chance to “serve the nation.”
